Orla’s Oat Bread

What you need

  • 1 large carton of natural yogurt (500g)

  • 2 full yogurt cartons of jumbo porridge oats (use empty yogurt container to measure)

  • 2 tablespoons of mixed seeds

  • 2 tablespoons of honey

  • 2 teaspoons of bicarbonate of soda (or 2 tablespoons of baking powder)

  • 1 egg

  • Butter or baking paper to line the loaf tin

Equipment

  • Large bowl

  • Wooden Spoon

  • Knife

  • Loaf Tin

  • Teaspoon

  • Fork

  • Tablespoon

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 190°C, fan oven 170°C, gas mark 5.

  2. Pour the yogurt into a large bowl.

  3. Use the empty yogurt container to beat the egg with a fork. Add the egg to the yogurt in the bowl.

  4. Add the honey to the bowl and stir into the yogurt and egg mix with a wooden spoon.

  5. Add 2 full yogurt containers of oats to the bowl and mix well.

  6. Add in the bicarbonate of soda and the mixed seeds.

  7. Grease a loaf tin with butter or line it with baking paper and put the bread mix into the loaf tin.

  8. Use a knife to make a deep cut down the middle of the loaf so that it cooks through.

  9. Place the loaf tin in the oven and bake for 1 hour. Turn off the oven and leave the loaf in the oven for another hour to make sure that it is well-baked.

  10. Turn out the loaf onto a large plate or wire rack to cool.
