Jars of Jam

What you need

  • 1 x 300g packet of frozen or fresh raspberries

  • 1 x 300g packet of frozen or fresh blackberries

  • 3 mugs (600g) sugar

  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

    Equipment

  • Large saucepan

  • Wooden spoon

  • Large jug

  • 4 jam jars

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 120°C, fan oven 100°C, gas mark 1.

  2. Put the berries, sugar and lemon juice into a large saucepan and cook on very low heat until the berries are soft and the sugar is melted.

  3. Increase the heat to a soft boil and boil for 15 minutes, stirring all the time, until the jam thickens.

  4. A foam will form on top of the jam as it cooks. You can use the wooden spoon to remove the foam off the top.

  5. Heat the clean jam jars in the oven for 3 minutes.

  6. Carefully pour the jam into a jug and fill the jam jars with jam.

  7. Cover the jam jars with lids or clingfilm when the jam is cold.

Always be extremely careful when working with hot jam
